Square

Hello, I have added four new oil paintings to the gallery. Which brings my life time total to five. I’ve decided to allot 95% of my art to the medium of oil painting. As I said, I am a hobbyist and not a professional. So take a look and enjoy them for what they are. The paintings are listed in order of their creation:

  1. The Lady – I found a picture of a beautiful woman and had to paint her. I wish I could have done her beauty justice.
  2. Loss – I found a lady in a film whose expression encapsulated a feeling I am well acquainted with – loss. So I captured a frame and took it to Krita. From there, I created a photo composition including background and period clothing. I used Davinci Eye to help me transfer a drawing of it to my canvas. I then painted it. My wife said the finished painting scared her.
  3. My Soup Cup – I experienced a catastrophic illness a bit over seven years ago. It was a migraine that mimicked a stroke. My mind, emotions, and body were bulldozed. I got to learn how to cope with building a life as a disabled person. During the worst parts of my illness, I was able to find real comfort and security in a warm cup of soup. Soup was a lifeline to me. As I am doing more still life, I painted my Soup Cup.
  4. Memento Mori – My most recent painting. Another still Life, It is an homage to remembering that I must die. The composition was set on the corner of my desk. It consist of my artist skull named Gary. The cloth was actually a handkerchief from my army days draped over my art journal. The olive green color didn’t work so I made it blue. I used one of my paint brushes to represent my passion to share beauty and truth through painting. My prayer rope (They look a lot like a rosary) to represent eternal life in Jesus Christ. The red candle, actually candle the candle light, represents the sensual aesthetic of doing things with your own hands. I actually had a purchase offer on it from a friend.

So there we go.
